The dissertation shows us what are the theories of soft power, and then defines the soft power diplomacy of the U.S.A in the 1920s.The first chapter is mainly about the analysis of the soft power resources in the 1920s. From four aspects of American times spirits, American educational system, American cultural art and American commercial culture, It's pinned down what motive force promoted the American government to make the world blueprint, why the American churches could create so many famous church universities and train so much men , why so many famous American Foundations took benefiting mankind as their responsibilities and why the cultural products were popular with the whole world.The second chapter sheds light on the soft power diplomacy by the American government. It's divided into the Wilson period and the period of Republican government according to the diplomatic characteristics of American government. During the former period, the U.S.A formulated the International regulations and established international organization once again. The ideal of building "permanent and peaceful" world by the U.S.A was universally welcome. However, the prejudice from the American culture and experiences as well as the compromise of the American governments made the Wilson's ideal attacked. Although the Republican government involved in the European reconciliation and economic recovery in order to achieve economic interests, this eased the tension of Europe in degree. Although the Republican government participated in the naval disarmament conference so as to achieve naval superiority, this also alleviated heated arms race. In fact, Americans participated in the peace process throughout the world. These also promoted the American soft power.The third chapter expounds that American social organizations and American cultural industries played an important role in the improvement of American soft power. American churches and Foundations in social organizations were chosen because the influence and the size of preaching doctrine activities overseas byAmericans were tremendous. What's more, the American Foundations take benefiting mankind as its purpose. Film industry was chosen in the American cultural industry because Hollywood movies formed good investment and distribution mechanism. All types of films with American idea of value were popular with the whole world.Conclusion analyzes the characteristics and historical influence of American soft power diplomacy. In 1920s,soft power diplomacy of American government and social organization has greatly achieved. This not only promoted peace but also accumulated experience and approaches of soft power diplomacy later.
