| Toshio Hosokawa(b.1955-),is one of the best known Japanese composers in the world today.Under the compositional ideology of creativity-pursuing during the 20th century,Hosokawa absorbed nutrients from his previous major teacher Isang Yun’s Holon Compositional Theory and combined traditional Japanese culture,creating a unique way of composition which is individual and eastern.His orchestra works act a paramount role among the numerous works of him.This dissertation,therefore,is centered on analysis of musical traits from three orchestral works from the different instrumentation,theme,and specialties of musical expression,unfolding Hosokawa’s compositional perspectives and techniques with his orchestral works.The first chapter:Experience and Music——introducing Hosokawa’s musical career and music writing.The second chapter:Analyses of musical essentials from the work Wind from the Ocean,Tabi-Bito,and Lotus under the Moonlight——crystallizing the characteristics of orchestral composition writing.The third chapter:Holon and Hosokawa——discoursing the relationship between Hosokawa’s music and Isang Yun’s Holon Compositional Theory and what development is in Hosokawa’s music of orchestra. |
