Art,by its nature,is a practice of knowledge production,filled with complex and subtle relationships.In the production of art,symbolic representation is the most commonly used strategy.The complicated symbolic world related with the'Academism' Tibetan folk dances not only owns the practice of construction and production techniques,but also shows the current social context,identification mechanism and operation logic.This article will analyse the case study of the formation and development of the'Academism' Tibetan folk dances,with the explanation from the cultural and symbolic perspective.In the production process,the symbolic use,manifesting expression and practical logic are explored in order to understand the construction process of the symbolic representation practice of the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances.The aim is to see through the connection between the production of dance and the representation practice of it.As a'traditional work',the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances have already become one art form that is different from traditional Tibetan folk dances.Although it has close connection with folk dances,modern representation techniques such as light and shadow technology,modern aesthetics,stereo theatre and so on make the"Academism" folk dances obtain a "modern characterization" which belongs to a certain type of academy.With the help of the microscopy of Gertz's'deep description',this paper attempts to observe the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances in the theoretical context of'representation'and transfer the research from the objective dimension to the expressive dimension of symbols&discourse.It will demonstrate the research way of the symbolic representation practice of the'Academism' Tibetan folk dances.Therefore,this article puts forward the following viewpoint:the formation of the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances is a practice of cultural reproduction under the context of a modernity which is influenced by many factors.The field research of the 'Academism'Tibetan folk dances mainly focuses on'root-seeking and transplantation',"explanation and performance",showing the practical process and details of the 'Academism' Tibetan folk dances,including selective extraction from the core elements of traditional fields;decoding and restructuring of cultural code system by classroom combination;composing the theme of dancing works and grasping the national style;artistic practice and modern game from the vision of the country...Via decoding and reconstructing the original symbolic system,the practitioners of the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances construct the representation of'paradigm discourse' and put them into the concrete practice of classroom teaching,stage creation and performance,which finally produces the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances.The great influence of national discourse,the identity of cultural elites,the expression of artistic discourse and the profound effect of modernity have jointly become important factors for the formation and development of the'Academism,Tibetan folk dances.Representation helps to form the typical,training and normative'Academism'Tibetan folk dances through the reproduction of Tibetan folk dances and the approach of acquiring the meaning.Though it cannot neither get rid of the traditional culture,nor be separated from the omnipresent factors in the existing field.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which explains the theoretical framework and research methods of this article based on the raised questions and the review of relevant theories.The second chapter traces back the development process of the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances.Along the time line,it includes three parts:'the prelude to revolution','spring dances'and'variation of the new era'.These three parts mainly introduce the formation and development of the'Academism' Tibetan folk dances.Chapter ?and Chapter IV,with the names of'Restoration and Reconstruction' and'Interpretation and Exhibition' respectively,present the process and details of symbolic representation practice of the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances.In the concluding part of the fifth chapter,the author summarizes the basic points of the paper:number one,the'Academism'Tibetan folk dance is an'imaginative aesthetic' under the national discourse system;number two,the'Academism'Tibetan folk dances have experienced combination with tradition and reconstruction of reality in the process of modernity;number three,the'Academism' Tibetan folk dances with typical,training and normative characteristics have been formed through the reproduction of Tibetan folk dances and the approach of acquiring the meaning by representation.
