The Study On The Methodology Of Emilio Betti's Hermeneutics

Throughout the history of hermeneutics,the tradition of methodogical hermeneutics has been inherited and developed by another great thinker who is not from Germany but Italy,the hermeneutist,Emilio Betti(1890-1968).Emilio Betti's theories cannot be written off the realm of Hermeneutics.However,because Hans-Georg Gadamer's "philosophical hermeneutics" has long occupied the mainstream position in the field of western hermeneutics,Betti's unique hermeneutics thought has not yet received due attention and affirmation from scholars at home and abroad.In Betti's view,Hans-Georg Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics regarded the reader's "pre-understanding" and "fusion of horizons" as the premise of understanding,but failed to properly regulate the interpreter's participation,thus easily leading to the relativistic tendency of understanding and thus jeopardizing the objectivity of interpretation.The correct interpretation needs an effective and general methodology(allgemein Methodik)as the basis and guarantee.Therefore,the study of hermeneutics must not abandon the methodological approach.It is absolutely necessary to make a fruitful exploration from the research approach of methodology so as to construct a general methodology system for moral science(Geisteswissenschaft).In view of the current development and the future development direction of western hermeneutics,this paper takes Allgemeine Auslegungslehre als Methodik der Geisteswissenschaften,one of Betti's representative monumental works in German(Theory of General Interpretation as Methodology of Moral Science 1967.)as the main text and uses the literature research method,method of comparative research,hermeneutical research and interdisciplinary research.On the basis of relevant studies by scholars at home and abroad,this paper tries to analyze Betti's hermeneutics methodology in order to explore its philosophical basis,sort out its theoretical sources,highlight its theoretical core,see through its theoretical characteristics and show its methodological significance.The system of Betti's hermeneutical methodology also has important practical significance for the development of contemporary hermeneutics: First of all,it will help to reflect on the interpretation activities,thus better carrying out the interpretation practice.Secondly,it is conducive to creating a good academic environment and forming an ideal academic community.Thirdly,it is beneficial to standardize the practice of hermeneutics in humanities and promote the integration of hermeneutics and other disciplines in methodology.
