The motivation about this thesis is that finding the potential text(i.e.historical context)in the summary of the Individual Collection works in Yuan Dynasties from General Catalogue.It also aims to rewrite the history of literature in the Yuan Dynasties and complete the summary of the Individual Collection works' content.Therefore,this thesis will base on the General Catalogue,a traditional literature,take the poetry criticism system presented by the summary of the Individual Collection works as the object,base on 169 kinds of recorded texts and make the literary concept as a method and then manage to discover and restore the true face of the Yuan Dynasties poetry in the dialogue form the General Catalogue to supplement and correct the existing problems of the Yuan Dynasties poetry.So it can add new ideas and thoughts to the drawing of poetic pictures in the Yuan Dynasties,and provide a strong support for rewriting the literature history of Yuan Dynasties.As for generative research,the Summary's stereotype is an gradually approaching process which transformed from philology text to literature text from the perspective of diachronic change.Compared with one of the starting levels of the hierarchy,Weng Fanggang's summary of the contributions,the amount of information in the General Catalogue can be described as an overall improvement;compared with original synthetic book,JinCheng CunMu,General Catalogue has stronger conception,but this concept is still spotted not complete.If compared with the book of Wenyuan Pavilion,the concept of "General Catalogue" has been refined and upgraded into a comprehensive cognition and mastery.From the perspective of synchronic structure,the records principle of Individual Collection works in Yuan Dynasties are more detailed,less deleted.The signs dividing the historical period appear to several characteristics such as dilatation,subjective judgment and different dividing signs standard.The arrangement's order presents a concept that Chun Qiu brushwork,a historical narrative method and technique in ancient China,can mean goodness and badness of things.The writing ideas of the Summary contains at least six aspects,namely,worship enlightenment thoughts only,revere reality and dethrone fiction,fill the gap in the history,dispel the mind,praise and reward good personality and eliminate isolated factions.The first three aspects can be regarded as a fundamental matter that connects the beginning or the end of the matter,but the last three shows the particularity when writing the summary of the Individual Collection works in Yuan Dynasties from General Catalogue.There are more deep consideration behind writing the Summary.The check aim is for correction not for deletion.Filling the gap in the history is to perfect the history content in Yuan Dynasties.Revering reality and dethroning fiction is agreeing with the academic achievement in Yuan Dynasties.Dispelling the mind is the key force to build Yuan Dynasties.Praising and rewarding good personality aims to build human values in Yuan Dynasties.Eliminating isolated factions is to show the people's honesty and kindness.According to the way that Qing Dynasties official school approved,the General Catalogue is continuously construct academic system in Yuan Dynasties,and whose standpoints are also inclusive,approval and admired.As for version research,from the view of version firstly,General Catalogue is better in version view than those previous individual works,so it is a vital contribution to the arrangement and critique of Individual Collection works by people from Yuan Dynasties.However,there is also a certain degree of blindness in the source of edition of General Catalogue when compiling the Siku Quanshu,and it is not a full-field version: First,it has explored the editors' version view from the perspective of edition source.local Individual Collection works source shows inverted pyramid construction which leads to the limitation when editors record Individual Collection works.The Individual Collection works in Yuan Dynasties of Yongle Dadian in the collection of the editors are all recorded by the General Catalogue.Second,although some Individual Collections are not the best versions,they show that there were also some limitations existing in the view of the editors of the Yongle Dadian.Third,the editors neglected in discovering the value of the individual collection works of the Cabinet and lacked of excavation.These are the absence of the version collections and the limitation of view in collecting Individual Collection works.Forth,the inadequacy of editors recording the relevant Individual Collection works also embodied the limitation of the editors' view.Then from the perspective of the errors of version,problems such as unreliable version,private version,confused version and derivative erroneous edition information exist in the version mentioned in the Individual Collection works and the Summary.These may because of the academic attitude of editors,or the limited view of the version,or the complexity of compilation work.However,the influence of academic attitude and official prejudice of the editors cannot be excluded.Next,attention should be paid on the phenomenon of deleting preface,postscript and appendix.Referring to the version information mentioned in the Summary,it can be found that the phenomenon of deleting preface of the Siku Quanshu is not as serious as that is imagined or predicted,so the Individual Collection works in Yuan Dynasties of the Siku Quanshu still have certain edition value.At the meantime,although the phenomenon of deleting preface in individual collection works in Yuan Dynasties of Siku Quanshu is prominent,the proportion isn't large.That shows deleting preface is not the fundamental reason which causes the differences between Siku Quanshu and the master copies of Siku Quanshu.Their differences lie in the differences of the version which they are based.This point of view provides an understandable perspective for understanding the differences between the version mentioned in the Summary edition.As for the research on literature citation,the Summary is not entirely the original writing of the editors.To be exact,it is a micro textual research of every aspect and level.By quoting various kinds of materials to verify a certain fact and prove a certain point of view,it fully embodies the textual research spirit of Qianjia Academy.The broad visual field,the uncommon excavation and the comprehensive exploration of the Summary have left many references and academic viewpoints for later studies.While at the same time,there are still two kinds of mistakes in literature citation: methodology level and consciousness level.The highly cited literature in Yuan Dynasties are History of Yuan Dynasties,Selected Poems of Yuan Dynasties,preface,postscript,epitaph and other three categories.By studying each category,there are some findings.First,the History of Yuan Dynasties is a historical literature and it is specialized by its orthodox identity.Its defect lies in the rough and poor compilation.In quoting History of Yuan Dynasties into the General Catalogue,there are four shortcomings: rough proofreading thus causing errors;misinterpretation leading a thousand distance from the truth;misleading the name and being a mere formality;subjectively choosing and obeying the theme.Second,The Selected Poems of Yuan Dynasties belongs to literary literature,and it is characterized by its own school of thought in the strife of poetics in the early Qing Dynasties.While overpraised is considered as its shortcoming.There are four defects when General Catalogue cited the Selected Poems of Yuan Dynasties : First,works were cited blindly without good consideration,resulting in the repetition of mistakes;second,there exist some chaos and fracture caused by the avoidance of banned and destroyed works;third,there is a sense of identity anxiety in the change of forms and the constant covering-up;forth,Confucianism is taken as orthodoxy and this has shown the subjective compulsion of revealing one and covering the other.Thirdly,the preface,postscript,epitaph and so on are primary documents with the authenticity brought about by relatedness,and also with the defect of beautifying too much.There are also four regrets when the General Catalogue cited the preface and postscript: First,if traced to the source,the quotation is not from the original works of preface and postscript,but quoted from a secondary source;second,it can be found that the Summary has no reference to the information of preface and postscript,which leads to the blindness in writing;third,seeing from a standpoint,the Summary advocates the verdict of different generation,and avoids the preface and postscript;forth,the dialectic of mistakes shows some misinterpretation of the original text and confusion between one and another.Wide range of reference and correct literature interpretation in accordance with the author's intention are the positive correlation between quotation and authenticity of academic study.While wide range of reference and correct literature interpretation are both equipped,the next is to use dialectic because dialectical thinking is essential when citing works.As for the study of literature criticism,there are some critics in the summary of the individual collection works in Yuan Dynasties from General Catalogue,and these critics are unprecedented in their large quantity,subtle content and wide range.The history of literature and criticism of the Yuan Dynasties in the Summary are also independent and systematic.It is pitiful that in General Catalogue,there exist distinctive ideologies in the construction of historical view of literature,in the defense and reconstruction of literature of Yuan Dynasties and in the expression and criticism of strange and gorgeous style in the poems of Yuan Dynasties,which has shown the lack of understanding.Firstly,from the historical view of literature,General Catalogue has constructed the history of literature according to the “Social Vicissitudes Theory” and wrote it by the regulation of the change from reform,prosperity to abuse.There is no doubt that the history of literature is accompanied with social changes and vicissitudes of literature,but for literature of Yuan Dynasties,literature in Yuan Dynasties can be seen as a grand sight.The literature history of the Yuan Dynasties constructed by the “Social Vicissitudes Theory” seems to be a paradox.On one hand,poetry flourished in turbulent times in Yuan Dynasties;on the other hand,in the middle of the Yuan Dynasties,there are absolutely literary defects in the flourishing times.These literature scenes of Yuan Dynasties are all covered by General Catalogue.Secondly,from literature of Yuan Dynasties,General Catalogue defends against the baseless point of “Non-literature” in Yuan Dynasties and reconstructs the concept of “existence of literature” in Yuan Dynasties since the middle period of Jiajing years of Ming Dynasties,to inherit the ancient prose of Tang and Song Dynasties with defining the essence of literature in Yuan Dynasties,to highlight the importance of literature with constructing the pattern of literature and to identify the literature of Yuan Dynasties with removing the defects and revitalizing the decline of the current situation,along with forming a connection between Tang Dynasties and Song Dynasties.This plays a vital role in the evolution of ancient Chinese literature history,which makes clear the diachronic flow between literature of Song Dynasties and that of Ming Dynasties.In General Catalogue,there are also regrets behind merits.Firstly,with the idea of advocating Confucianism and Neo-Confucianism of Cheng-Zhu,it is difficult for editors to liberate from the shackles of thoughts in the criticism and reshaping of the literature of Yuan Dynasties,resulting in the form of criticism paradigm that Taoism is superior to the literature.Secondly,for the creation of Yuan Dynasties' poetry,the General Catalogue ignores its defects,which causes the cover of its internal evolutionary logic.Thirdly,from the perspective of Yuan poetry,the expression of viewpoints on Yuan poetry's “strange and gorgeous style” in the General Catalogue exposes its contradictions and paradoxes: first of all,in terms of time,mixed usage of “Yuan Dynasties” and “Late Yuan Dynasties(Yuan Season)” appears,which is on the definition of “strange and gorgeous style”.Actually,to define such style in “Late Yuan Dynasties(Yuan Season)” is a new kind of criticism on Yuan poetry,which distinguishes the General Catalogue from other numerous criticisms in Ming and Yuan Dynasties;moreover,in terms of attributive object,on the one hand,editors recognized that the “strange and gorgeous style” was a stream of ethos and tide among poems in the last period of Yuan Dynasties,but on the other hand,it was only in the summary of Gu Ying' s Yushan Pugao that such style had a definite attribution.This view and its expression in the General Catalogue are obviously paradoxical,and the reasons are related to the paradoxical notion that the General Catalogue had to obey common view rather than the view of “strange and gorgeous style in Yuan Dynasties”,and it also had to use “ social vicissitude theory” in its macro criticism to build “social literary vicissitude” in the last period of Yuan Dynasties;At last,in terms of comment on style,as same as those traditional vindicators of Taoism,the General Catalogue strongly degrades and criticizes the poetry's “strange and gorgeous style”,absolutely the Yuan Dynasties have no exception.Nevertheless,it is unfair to disdain Yuan poetry basing on such style: one,it tends to be biased that the General Catalogue weakens other disadvantages of Yuan poetry and concentrates on one of them;two,from the perspective of politics,economy,and cultural ecology in Yuan Dynasties,the “strange and gorgeous style” is the most poetic style of Yuan Dynasties;three,in the field of poetic aesthetics,the other expression of Yuan poetry's “strange and gorgeous style” can be that Yuan Poetry has “brilliance and interest ”.As for the research of influence,there are two main dimensions of the influence of the Summary on later generations: one is the influence on category literature works of Yuan Dynasties;second is the influence on literary history writing and literary criticism of Yuan Dynasties.For the former,its theme relies on references and dialectics,revisions,amelioration under acceptance.For the latter,there are two situations of acceptance on the whole: first,in the 1930 s and 1940 s,when the writing of Chinese literary history was in its early stage,the concept and framework of literary history were not clear yet,in addition,there was no precedent to follow,hence,the writing of literary history depended much deeply on the Summary;second,since 1960 s,as the writing of literary history increasingly matures,the writing style and pattern of literary history have broken through the summary writing,and it also had a subversive impact on its notion.However,the achievement of literary historical critical topics and individual cases' criticisms contained in the summary of the Individual Collection Works in Yuan Dynasty from General Catalogue is still an everlasting controversial object in the writing of literary history.And with the tendency to localization tracing for the writing of Chinese literary history,The Summary of the Individual Collection Works in Yuan Dynasty from General Catalogue will have a far and everlasting influence on the writing of bibliographical works and literary history.
