Ozaki Hotsumi(1901~1944)is a striking figure in modern East Asian history. His legendary experience in revolutionary intelligence activities and his pioneering contributions in Chinese research have been highly evaluated. However, his colorful speech activities since the mid-1930s have not been fully Interpreted_i.He participated in the Sorge Group's espionage activities and had an understanding of the East Asian situation. The relationship between the development of his personal thought and his activities in the government's"New System"Movement has yet to be further analyzed. This thesis is based on a large number of works and reviews published by Ozaki in the mid-1930s to 1941,and compares them with other intellectual works and current affairs reviews of the same period to analyze Ozaki's understanding of Chinese society and the changes in the East Asia current situation, and analyzing the ideological motivation of his participation in the"new system"movement and his favor of the Asianist ideology. The introduction reviews the history of the research on Ozaki Hotsumi since the end of the war and proposes the research topic of this thesis. The first chapter discusses the background of the ideological history of Ozaki's Marxist Chinese social theory. It focuses on the deep connection between Ozaki and Wittfogel and their"Asiatic Mode of Production"theory, which was not valued in the past, and clarifies the implications of Ozaki's"semi-colonial society"theory which contained ideological element of Asianism, through comparison with Nakanishi Ko's theory of Chinese society..The second chapter is based on various comments published by major Japanese magazines after the Xi'an Incident. It examines the structure of Japanese intellectuals'understanding of China before the Sino-Japanese War.In this period,The"China's unification"theory, which has recognized the historical significance of Chinese nationalism, and the so-called left-wing Chinese theory were appeare. However, these theories failed to fundamentally overcome the ideological limitations of Japanese imperialism and thus failed to ideologically resist Japan's war of invasion in China. The third chapter analyzes the understanding of the East Asian situation that Ozaki has published a large number of factual comments since the mid-1930s until the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war.Ozaki hopes for the progress of the Chinese revolution under the national crisis and fail to grasp the historical trend of the anti-Japanese national united front.Grasping the mechanics structure of East Asian international politics is the core of the understanding of Ozaki's current situation. The fourth chapter analyzes the understanding of Ozaki from the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war to his political activities for the Japanese government at the end of1938.From analyzing the inevitability of the expansion of war,Ozaki gradually turned to believe that the expansion of war may bring about social changes in Japanese society and the entire East Asian society,?Therefore,he began to actively participate in the"new system"movement, and the pro-government color of his speech also increased rapidly. The fifth chapter discusses the ideological significance of the so-called"East Asian Association"that swept through the Japanese ideological circles from 1938 to1939,and clarified that this theory is a response to the Japanese imperialist ideology crisis caused by the development of China's national liberation struggle. And pointed out the intrinsic contradictions and the inevitability of failure. The sixth chapter analyzes the understanding of Ozaki from the beginning of1939 to his arrest in 1941.During this period,Japan's conspiracy activities using the puppet regime were very active, and there were also many social“renovation”movements in Japan.Ozaki hopes that the"New East Asian Order"and"New System"can realize the reform of Japanese society, and when this hope is disillusioned,he also hopes for the further development of the war situation. In Conclusion,The process of change of Ozaki's thoughts is placed in the historical background of the history of the international communist movement and the national liberation movement in the first half of the world and the history of the Japanese socialist movement. It points out the inevitability and historical enlightenment of his ideological tragedy. While leaving the precious spiritual legacy in the 20th century,it also tells us the difficulties of thought and movement across national borders."Conditional internationalism"is still a subject to be considered today.
