Since the 1970 s,there is growing concern about the psychology of wisdom, among which the definition and the measurement of wisdom and its relationship with well-being have been increasingly emphasized.By definition, wisdom consists of at least two components: personality and competence. At present, few studies have developed tools to measure these two components based on the same theory. This paper proposes new measures based on the theory of “Integration of Virtue and Competence”,and examines the relationship between wisdom and well-being in the context of Chinese culture. In chapter III,an Integrative Wisdom Scale(IWS)is developed to measure wise personality and explore its relationship with self-assessment wisdom scale(SAWS)and three-dimensional wisdom scale(3D-WS),as well as the relationship between wise personality,Big Five personality, and well-being.IWS has good internal consistency reliability, retest reliability and structural validity according to analysis results and it is positively correlated with SAWS,3D-WS,psychological well-being and openness, but not with life satisfaction.Wise personality has independent influence on psychological well-being,which can explain 10.8% of the total variance when neuroticism, extroversion and openness are controlled.Overall, the IWS has good reliability and validity in Chinese culture.Compared with SAWS and 3D-WS,IWS contains richer and systematic connotations of wise personality.People with higher IWS scores have higher psychological well-being.In chapter IV,we develop a tool to measure one's wise problem-solving competence(WPS),and explores its relationship with well-being.The results show that the WPS measurement tool has good rating reliability and internal consistency reliability, and is moderately positively correlated with Berlin's wisdom model and psychological well-being,but not significantly correlated with life satisfaction.Overall,WPS tools have good reliability and validity, and people with higher WPS scores have higher psychological well-being.In chapter V,we develop a tool to assess WPS with self-report and performance measurement, then explore the relationship of WPS with emotions. The result shows that the indicators of WPS satisfies the requirements of psychometrics, and it is easier to show wisdom when the individual is in a calm and sad state compared with the happy state.Generally speaking,it is feasible to use self-report scale and performance method to measure WPS,and calm and sad state can become more likely to improve one's WPS.Overall, this paper develops a reliable wisdom measurement tool, and proposes that wisdom is more closely associated with psychological well-being compared with subjective well-being.
