Research On Subject In Xiao Hong's Discourse

In the process of language study,most people concentrate on studying predicates,but subjects,the opposition of predicates,are ignored.This paper suggests that subject should be taken seriously and become a research focus in linguistics.The concept of subject is related to the concepts of grammatical subject,speaker,theme,descriptive,general name and proper name in the disciplines of Semantics,Pragmatics,Functional Linguistics,Logic and Linguistic Philosophy but there are differences among them.By first studying the results of the predecessors' research on the subject systematically,this paper refines the definitions and types of subject,then takes Xiao Hong's work “The Story of Hulan River” as the corpus to verify and correct the definitions and classifications of subjects,and forms the definitions and classifications of subjects in this paper at last.We mainly apply related research methods of Cross-Language Comparative,Formal Grammar,Pragmatics,Linguistic Philosophy,Logic and Systemic Functional Lingustic to multi-dimensional analysis of subjects.At the same time,we explore the nativization of relevant theories of foreign research of subject.According to the author,the methods and results of foreign theoretical research on subjects should be applied to the analysis of Chinese corpus and service Chinese studies.In addition,this paper will focus on the following aspects:(1)the path and method of the research of subject;(2)the main functions of the subjects in Xiao Hong's discourse,such as rhetorical function,textual function,referential function and interpersonal function;(3)the life world of the characters in Xiao Hong's discourse constructed by subjects,such as ideology,subject and existence,the semiotic concept of the subject,and the life perspective of the subject.Finally,the paper points out the development trend of subject research:(1)In addition to linguistics and linguistic philosophy,the concept of subject are often used in Political Science,Sociology and Philosophy,and the methods and results of this research on subject can be applied to these disciplines.(2)The research of subject as the most basic concept in linguistics and linguistic philosophy will inevitably develop systematically while its research is not yet fully mature,and it is necessary to improve step by step by further exploration.(3)Third,the study of the subject must be studied and developed from the static research to the interactive direction.The study of the subject should not be limited to the static study of structural linguistics,but should be developed and enriched from the perspective of the interaction between people and the world.
