Quite a number of d iscourse markers in C hinese language are constituted by textual words, and we call them textual discourse markers.Previous studies on this subject are plenty, but the most part of which are limited to case studies. This article is about to discuss discourse markers composed by Chinese semantic elements‘?',‘?',‘?',and‘?'.According to the pattern and meaning,we selected 4 groups(the total number of 12)frequently used spoken-discourse markers in C hinese language:“shuobaile”(???),“shuochuanle”(???),“shuotoule”(???);“tanbaidijiang”(????),“tanshuaidijiang”(????),“tanbaijiang”(???),“tanshuaijiang”(???);“yaoeryanzhi”(????),“zongeryanzhi”(????),“jianeryanzhi”(????);“zongzhiyijuhua”(?????),“yijuhua”(???)as research subjects. This article is made up of 5 chapters.Chapter one covers the introductory part, which elaborates the reasons for topic selection, the significance of the very topic,as well as related literature review. At the very outset, the author also delineated the content, scope, theoretical basis, research methods and the textual discourse markers of this article, with sufficient clarification of the sources of corpus added on.Chapter two primarily discussed the structure and the pattern of spoken-discourse markers. The first step is to divide these spoken-discourse makers based on their structure, which would be followed by detailed categorization from the perspectives of pattern and function.Chapter three turns to several facets integral to spoken-discourse markers: discourse distribution, the boundary, commonalities and internal asymmetries.Spoken-discourse markers are distributed mainly over clauses, sentences and paragraphs. The author then makes a concrete analysis of the boundary issue in sub-categories of spoken-discourse markers, ensued by the discussion of the commonalities and internal asymmetries of spoken-discourse markers.Chapter four is constructed on interpersonal interaction theory of cognitive linguistics.Viewed respectively from perspectives of primary discourse and meta-discourse,the author examines discourse management functions,meta-pragmatic functions and interpersonal functions of spoken-discourse markers.Chapter five is the conclusion which summarizes our viewpoints and points out the shortcomings of the thesis.
