The Immediate Enlightenment Theory is the central category of Chan sect which presents the mainstream of ongoing development,after Middle Tang Dynasty.The research and dicusstion for the Immediate Enlightenment theory which originated from ideological augument of its internal faction should be more thorough and deep as ideological status.Essentially,the Chan theory is Lankavatara,Chan Theory with its core thought“Each wordly person can transform the Buddha' understanding of wisdom the same state into his own understanding”.which was introduced in<the Lankavatara Satra Chan>.Based on generalizing and analysing on the inside sequence of the Lankavatara Chan,its prevalent theory conveys the continuity relatively clear and stable and on the presumption of its continuity,we can come into a conclusion:The Immediate Enlightenment Theory is not merely one kind of quiescent thought pattern but a dynamic and systematic theory.so it consists of very profound and complicated semantic theory.To research and analysis it's semantic theory of The Immediate Enlightenment we should attach importance to grasping two aspects.One is the relativity between Immediacy and Sequence,the other is the historicity of the dualism structure of Immediacy and Sequence..Firstly Immediacy is a relative conception against the conception of Sequence,so we should do research works for Immediate Enlightenment based on a certain relation structured by both Immediacy and Sequence.Secondly the Dualism structure of Immediacy and Sequence made in different period of Chan was related to distinctive semantic category so the theory pattern of every period varied too,and each place different emphasise on the combination of theoretical elements..The development of the Immediate Enlightenment theory consists of four periods in light of the sequence of Lankavatara Chan:The first period is Damo and Huike period,in which the Immediate Enlightenment theory was formed primitively,in this period the Lankavatara Chan was established primarily,.at early stageDamo established the Buddha Chan in the basis of "one wordly person can transform the Buddha's understanding of wisdom into his own understanding to the same state as the Buddha" which was introduced in four volume<theLankavatara sutra>,he confirmed "self experience of Buddha by body feeling" as the principal of Lankavatara then established a new Chan approach completely differed from the traditional approach of Chan in China.Following Damo,Huike made very important innovation on the Awareness theory of Lankavatara,he transfered emphasis from Damo's "Self experience of Buddha through body feeling" to "Free oneself by his own nature of Buddha" "Free oneself by himself" and he invented the new approach of Lankavatara which demands no Language to seek truth,and from the perspective "Acquired Enlightenment of Buddha by his own nature of Buddha" and "depends on no the other thing".so the Immediate Enlightenment theory in this period presented the later popular Chan style primitively!The second period DongShan Approach made by Daoxin and Hongren period,in which the awareness of Immediate Enlightenment theory was made clear.In the seventh century,Daoxin and Hongren changed the style of cultivating oneself to being a Buddha quietly and closely of early Chan school,they made restructure of Chan thought,and stressed the specific characteristics of learners and approach(man of high brightness can easily acquire enlightenment of Buddha),they put forward clearly the theory of"quick enlightenment of Buddha"and "sudden awareness of Buddha"it appeared the awareness of the Immediate Enlightenment theory in this period from the inside of Lankavatara Chan.In this period,the expression of Immediate Enlightenment theory contained different theoretical elements including"The Buddha theory of one's own nature is the embryo of becoming Buddha"Instantaneous illumination""Demand no any language".The third period: the period of theoretical opposition of Immediacy in south againnst Sequence in north.in this period the Immediate Enlightenment theory was formulated as authentic value standard of Chan in South it was made clear the ongoing,development direction of Chan theory.After Hongren,Honghua who belonged to DongShan Approach school made deeper theoryical reflection,improved the Awareness of Immediate Enlightenment ideologically and he made more thorough research and more systematic conveyness for semantic elements about Immediate Enlightenment from the following aspects:“one's own nature of Buddha” "Demands no language" "personal brightness" "sitting in meddiation".Based on such understandings,in 732.Shenhui put forward "Immediacy in south and Sequence in north" and choosed Immediate Enlightenment as authentic principal of South Chan on Huatai assembly.His views kept the basis accordance with the theory of Buddha while presented its very distinctive opinion about the problem of approach.such as "one's own nature of Buddha" against " grasp ones own mind",Have no false mind "against" dispel false mind.It also presented different position about wether it is necessary to sit in meddiation and to cultivate.The fourth period,in which the series of Mazu Chan in Hongzhou arised,they induced the Immediate Enlightenment Theory to an extreme conclusion that there is no any probability for Immediate Enlightenment.The complete expression for Immediate Enlightenment theory made by Shenhui in Heze is"Acquired Immediate Enlightenment by gradual cultivation",The theory of"Acquired Immediate Enlightenmen by gradual cultivation"mark off two different stage between Enlightenment"and"Cultivation"which proposesd that Immediate Enlightenment means sudden wakeness,In order to becoming a Buddha,gradual practise is very necessary after Immediacy.so it also proposed there'sstill probability to acquired more understandings for there is enough time.Based on this theory of Immediate Enghtment.Hongzhou CHan put forword the opinion"keeping normal mind is the best method to acquired the nature of Buddha "and they also proposed that everything existed is real upon mind and moral character theroy.and they advoticated that one can acqured immediate enlightment at the moment upon the problem about how much time it will take to get enlightment.and they adivicated that true cultivation is no cultivation on purpose.The theory of Immediate Enlightment at the moment instructed by Hongzhou Chan made the awareness of Chan sect reach the exttem so made it become the terminal point of the theory development.
