Study Of Buddha's Name Preached By Buddha Sutra (Twenty Volumes) Belonging To Dunhuang Manuscript

It was in about Sui Dynasty that Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra belonging to Dunhuang Manuscript,which had twenty volumes, was created,this sutra pertains to spurious works. The contents of spurious works mostly not only show how Buddhism went round in folks in certain period and area,but also reveal society thoughts in certain period. It is helpful for us to understand how Buddhism spreaded in people.Based on Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra,which has twelve volumes translated by Bodhiruci in Yuanwei period, it has been compiled by adding other materials. Compared with twelve volumes, it has been added the name of sutra,confession articles, and The Mahāyāna Lotus Baoda Bodhisattva's asking about the Retribution for the Shramanas Sutra.The condition of longterm divisiveness of the society was ended in Sui Dynasty although,the mental umbrage brought on by hundreds of great turbulence of the society had been deeply rooted in the spirit of the people, and permanently affected people's belief trend.As a result,Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra(twenty volumes) has so important value that we can understand Buddhism in Nanbei and Sui Dynasty. But it is pity that the sutra has been lost since ancientry,only can be found out in Dunhuang Manuscript,therefore it becomes a research precondition to engage in collection and differentiation of the sutra from tremendous amount of Dunhuang Manuscript and offer a relative full text of this sutra for the academe. It is my honor that I am concerned with the collection,differentiation of this sutra,and has accomplished a relative full text of this sutra. According as the text of this sutra,first of all, the article will analyze the cause of the creation of this sutra, in order to illuminate the character of the content and structure of this sutra is consistent with the social trend of thoughts in Nanbei Dynasty by exemplifying a lot of historical facts. Secondly,we will indicate that this sutra was compiled in Sui Dynasty by analyzing the time of this sutra's being translated,which has revised the previous idea that this sutra was created in Nanbei Dynasty;Thirdly,we will analyze Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra (eighteen volumes) considered by Mr.Inosaki Taijun,who is a Japanese scholar;Lastly,the article will have some analyses about the status of this sutra in the evolvement of Buddha's name Sutra system.The article has three chapters:Part one will illuminate the cause of Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra (twenty volumes).Part two will reason the time of the creation of Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra (twenty volumes) and introduce the content and structure of this sutra to readers.Part three will mainly talk on eighteen volumes and analyze historical status of this sutra in the evolvement of Buddha's name Sutra system.By expatiation hereinbefore,we can get three conclusions:One: It is an inevitable result for the creation of Buddha's name preached by Buddha Sutra(twenty volumes)with the influence of the thought about degeneration of the dharma and the worship to the three precious ones prevailing for a long time in the field of Buddhism since Nanbei Dynasty;Two: The Sutra was compiled in about Sui Dynasty;Three: The character of the content and structure of this sutra manifests the fashion of confession before Buddha,Dharma,Bonze;Four: Buddha's name Sutra(eighteen volumes) considered by Mr.Inosaki Taijun should be actually the former eighteen volumes of Buddha's name Sutra(twenty volumes).Five: The Sutra has the status of connecting link between the preceding and the following in the evolvement of Buddha's name Sutra system.
