From the later Republic to the early Empire,the Roman state system of government realized the transition from republic to monarchy,and Roman society underwent significant changes.This paper takes The Roman children in this period as the main research object,describes the performance of children in various fields such as family,society and country,examines the nature,status,significance and value of the Roman children,and explores the social expectation of the Roman children and the mechanism by which the Roman culture plays its role.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter starts with the definition of children in ancient Rome to explore the nature and role of children in the eyes of Romans.They believed that childhood was a special period,consistent with the laws of the natural operation of the universe,and a period of preparation before undertaking national political obligations.The Romans generally recognized the purity of children,faced up to their childish and irrational weaknesses,and were full of confidence and expectation for their growth.In their view,children were very important to the Roman family,the inheritors of traditional Roman moral values;Socially,children were the future citizens of the country,and the Romans believed that children represented the hope of the future.The second chapter discusses the life experience of children in the Roman family life,analyzes the role of children in the family and the relationship between them and family members.patria potestas was the core characteristic of the Roman family.Parents had the main responsibility to raise children,relatives and servants in the family also played a role in raising children.The multicultural atmosphere in the family played a certain role in the growth of children,and it was the duty of children to inherit family traditions.During the period from the Republic to the Emperor,the family paid more and more attention to children,and children were always an indispensable member of the family.The third chapter discusses the historical situation of children in political life,national religion and national policy under the background of social changes in Rome,and explains the influence of social changes on the status and role of children in public life.From the end of the Republic to the imperial period,the Roman rulers replaced the original political system with the connotation of traditional patria potestas and the form of the principate.The new system showed the characteristics of patria potestas.In order to consolidate the dynastic power,the ruler greatly strengthened the role of children from different social classes in religious activities and political propaganda,and partly intervened and took over the responsibility of raising children from the Romans.The ruler played the role of the supreme patriarch of Rome.In times of social change,the gap between the religious political status of girls and boys is gradually narrowing.The fourth chapter discusses the development of Roman children's education and the development of the two stages of education,and discusses the relationship between children and teachers in each stage.From the late republic to the early empire,the Romans to cultivate moral perfection,mature technique of the speaker as the main target to carry out education activities,the Roman ethics as the content of the enlightenment education,would hold the teaching of oral speech skills as the school education,family members,household and common teachers exerted the effects on children's education.Roman education was influenced in many ways by Greek culture.By examining the experiences of Roman children in public life,family life and education,this paper finds that from the later Republic to the early Empire,the transformation of the Roman state regime had a profound impact on the social life of the Romans,and the patriarchal characteristics were maintained.During this period,The influence of Greek culture on Roman culture was increasing,which was consistent with its ruling needs as a huge country across the Mediterranean Sea.
