On The Impact Of Political Polarization After The Cold War On American Foreign Policy

American political polarization is popular among scholars.Most people would be likely to seeking the the positive influence of American political polarization on China,which was opposite to regular impression that American politician would like to seek the “enemy” when they come across domestic difficulty,the idea of writing this dissertation popped in my head.And according to the American constitution,the formulation right of American foreign policy was separated by the congress and the president.Although the influence factor of American foreign policy was various,including the interest groups,elites,think tanks and so on,they have to exert the influence through the congress and the president.Therefore,this dissertation seizes two key factors of the congress and the president to discuss the influence of American political polarization on its foreign policy.This dissertation explores,mainly combining the research methods of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,the relation between political polarization and American foreign policies.In the introduction part,puzzles are raised and the related literature are listed and discussed.The main body of the dissertation is divided into four chapters.The first chapter introduces the definition,manifestation,history and reasons of the political polarization.The second and the third chapters probe into the phenomenon of political polarization and analyze the correlation of political polarization and the foreign policies of the United States after Cold War.The fourth chapter discusses,based on the important case of making the Iraq war policy,the impact of political polarization on American foreign policies.The fifth chapter summarizes the related rules and puts forward relevant policy recommendations.The dissertation concludes,because of the possibility of making negative bipartisan diplomacy,the American political polarization is not the good news to other countries.However,the negative bipartisan diplomacy would vary by that the foreign policy object is an ally or not,the foreign policy has practical interests or not,the dominant power of foreign policy is strong enough or not,or the ruling party changes or not.Besides,the political polarization is also the important reason of pushing the president and the congress to initiate the Iraq war,which should raise the vigilance for related countries.This dissertation only discussed the influence of political polarization on American foreign policies after Cold War,and,due to the complexity of the development of Asia,it just analyzes the cases of Asian countries.If this dissertation would continue to conduct the holistic approach of the influences of political polarization on American foreign policies,it would possess more diversities and complexities.
