A Case Study On Labor Process Of Female Workers In Construction Filed Regime

This dissertation is a case study on the labor process of female migrants in construction.Based on the qualitative study at case L building site in Fujian province,it investigates the production and the life of female migrants.Focusing on the key question of the labor process----the power relationship in the work filed,combing the factory regime and the gender theory,it discusses three questions as the labor process in construction and the gendered order,expressing the entity of female migrants,and the identification experience.It concludes as below:Firstly,construction is highly in gendered order,not only because the small quantity of female workers,but also the power level differentiation between male and female in construction,and the male-dominated regime.Female in the bottom of the power level,they face conundrum and try to match up to the situation.Secondly,the reproduction of construction is divided into two parts as the city life and the rural life of the family members.Because of the lack of social security,the gender differentiation in training,and the loads of most household affairs,female workers are limited in development.Thirdly,female migrants in construction have multiple identities.That their scale identity in their work field and role of "Nongcunren" and wrong feelings under the context of traditional men industry has been decreased by the satisfaction of economic income or living with their husband together.Fourthly,the disadvantages of women's resource and difference during the work,shaping the gender order of working field and the relationship of labor production and reproduction,which greatly has reinforced the character of gender order.Lastly,the family or geographical relationship and the same scale experience of construction have hidden the gender order in the construction field.The most important research significance of this thesis is that we study the female group in the construction industry whom have not been focused before by Chinese scholars.This study has changed from the whole and distract farmer worker,being back to the core of working process,focus on some group of the farmer workers.We focus on the embedded role of social gender which plays in the building production regime.We also use the theory of labor process to analyze the working process and its influencing factors,so this study expands the applied field of the theory and enriches the content of the theory.
