As the forefront of reform and opening-up,Shenzhen has rapidly emerged as a modern international metropolis with the help of foreign capital, technology and labor force in the past 40 years of reform and opening up.Based on the binary management system of state-owned land and collective land, there have been a number of informal space on the collective land without planning, examination and approval procedures and lack of legal property rights in the process of rapid industrialization and urbanization, relative to the space on the state-owned land with legal approval formalities and legal property right which strictly conforms to the Urban land planning. From the perspective of the urbanization, this study summarized the process of formation, development and transformation of informal space as informal urbanization. This paper studied the spatial process of informal urbanization, analyzed the socio-economic and institutional factor, discussed the social stratification in the transition process of formal urbanization, and further expanded the comparative analysis to other domestic cities.By studying the transformation of space production, benefit adjustment social stratification in the process of informal urbanization to normal urbanization, this paper proposed the two-stage theory and the "pyramid" Social Stratification, discussed the social space theory of Social-Growth Alliance-Space Production-Space Theory of Social Stratification, and proposed the benefit game mechanism and institutional suggestion in the two-stage urbanization process. The first chapter of the thesis puts forward the research questions and significance of this research, and sorts out relevant researches on the causes, processes, types, and disposals of informal urbanization in foreign countries, and summarizes domestic scholars' informal informality, urban villages, and urban informality. As well as the related research results of urbanization and social stratification,a brief review of the existing research was conducted, and the theoretical perspective, research ideas, and core concepts of the study were further clarified, and the related conditions in the study area were introduced. This study focuses on Shenzhen as an analysis case, focusing on the study of the process, social outcomes, and transformation of informal urbanization from the perspective of spatial and social integration. It focuses on the study of informal cities from the perspective of social space production. The related constructive relations between society and space in the process of transformation, clarifying the social construction logic of space, and the theoretical and practical issues of the social structural differentiation brought about by the promotion of social stratification. The second chapter focused on the spatial process and characteristics of informal urbanization in Shenzhen.Comprehensively considering the time points of important relevant policies and the ups and downs of informal urbanization, this chapter divided the informal urbanization into such periods as the slowly advancing period(1978-1992),out-of-control management period(1992-1999),policy rebound period(1999-2009)and slow growth period(2009-present),and summarize some aspects of the development characteristics such as time, space, subject, type and utility of in formal urbanization, and summarized the development characteristics of informal urbanization in terms of time, space, subject, type and utility. The third chapter analyzed the socio-economic and institutional roots of Shenzhen informal urbanization. This chapter proposed that industrialization was the exogenous driving force of informal urbanization and rapid urbanization was the endogenous driving force. We also indicated that the pursuit of economic value of collective social subject land was a direct power, and governance capacity conflicting objectives and instruments of governance resulting from a weak, indirect let the informal urbanization possible. The fourth chapter extended from subject analysis to structure analysis, and analyzed the spatial production of informal urbanization from the perspective of conflict of interest and cooperation. In the interest game process of informal urbanization, related subjects have formed a growth union due to the pursuit of interests in the collective land.By breaking through the power structure of government governance, this union promotes informal urbanization, and the conflicts are mainly from the government and collective land community organization and its members.Conflict and cooperation are derived from interest, and finally terminate in interest. From the point of view of social space, cooperation and conflict among social subjects have formed the current state of the space. The completion of informal built space has created space platform for the foreign population into the city and also has promoted the differentiation of social structure, dividing the local farmer and the migrant population into the landlord class and the lessee class.Under the leading of urban production and lifestyle, the city has become a way of life and has driven the evolution of the social value system. The fifth chapter mainly discussed the spatial reproduction of formal urbanization. In the formal urbanization stage, the government as a body of the growth coalition has formed the growth union among government, development main bodies and original owners by policy innovation.Taking urban renewal and land readiness as the main policy channels of reproduction of space, the government power has continued to compromise to the market and society which promotes the market to play the decisive role in the allocation of land resources through the capitalization of land resource. However, this mechanism has continuously deepened social stratification, expanded the social gap, further to exclude the foreign population from the adjustment of interests and the division of interests. It gave birth to the housing class under the background of rising prices in the land market and the housing market. This chapter suggested to pay more attention to social equity,to prevent the social class stereotypes,to promote the public interest distribution by system design.Further analyzes the transformation of social space in the process of formal urbanization, examines the phenomenon of social spatial differentiation, and explores the social vertical flow dilemma under spatial separation.Furthermore, the government should strengthen the equalization of education, health care and other public services for the floating population in the city, and promote the citizen of migrant population and social vertical mobility. In the chapter six, different cities and their informal urbanization transformation were compared. From the perspective of the subject, this chapter divided the informal urbanization of domestic cities into the promotion of rural residents, the promotion of village main bodies, the promotion of foreign main bodies and the promotion of formal main proprietorships. And this chapter established an analytical framework from dimensions of market-led and government-led,compared the spatial strategies of controlling, demolishing, confirming power, land acquisition and transformation in different informal cities in different domestic cities, and also analyzed the effects of different management strategies for informal urbanization on the social stratification structure. The last chapter summarized and refined briefly the main view of the full-text.From the perspective of state of ownership and management, this chapter reaffirmed the two-stage urbanization theory of informal urbanization and formal urbanization, proposed Social Space Construction Mechanism of social subjects-growth alliance-the production of space-social stratification, and the"Pyramid" social stratification, which enriches the theory of social space. In the process of public policy adjusting urban land profit distribution,we propose to strive to avoid "transformation" trap of the profit distribution system standardization and social structure standardization from informal urbanization to formal urbanization. For this study the problems,we suggest to study the issue of spatial justice in the process of two-stage urbanization in the future, strengthen the research on issues such as continuing quantitative research based on China's actual social-space theory.
