This dissertation comprehensively derives the nonlinear mechanism between China's labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading by discussing the effect of labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading in different dimensions.It is generally believed that there is a clear correlation between labor force and industrial structure upgrading.Because of the boundary of information transfer,the complexity network of industrial structure and the non-linearity of technological innovation,the traditional theory could merely give some insufficient explanations to describe the mechanism between the two mentioned items above.On the other hand,during the process of unbalanced development in different regions of China,geospatial barrier and information barriers are gradually formed.Thence,under the compound effects of these multiple effects and historical development characteristics,the labor evolution and industrial structure upgrading in these regions inevitably appear a certain degree of path dependence.These make researchers difficult to restore the whole process of how the evolution of labor force is smoothly embedded in the industrial structure system of different regions or even to clear the causal relationship between those information and industrial structure.Therefore,how to drive the self-enhanced feedback mechanism of labor force and gradually evolve the income-increasing path with the effect of scale diffusion and human capital dividends is an important aspect to ensure the smooth implementation of the "supply-side" economic reform and sustainable economic development.This requires us to explore the evolution of China's labor force in light of the reality and theoretical basis.Only by clarifying the mechanism between the evolution of labor force and industrial structure upgrading can we find effective measures to avoid inappropriate path dependence.Hence,this study needs to focus on several key problems: first,we should identify the nonlinear characteristics of the trajectory of the research objects;second,we should clarify the multi-metric problem of labor force evolution and industrial structure,and discuss the differential mechanism between them;and the third problem is to derive the dynamic nonlinear mechanism between labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading,and also the optimal evolution path between labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading.Based on this,the main work of this study is divided into the following parts:First,this study clarifies the connotation of industrial structure upgrading,and elaborates the rationality and measurement dimension of applying the metaphor of “evolution” to labor force research.In addition,it also combines the complexity science to define the nonlinear characteristics of industrial structure upgrading and labor force evolution.Then,by analyzing the existing research on the relationship between labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading,some viewpoints that are similar to the path dependence theory are summarized,furthermore,based on path dependence theory,a scientific and in-depth discussion on the nonlinear mechanism of labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading is given.Second,we want to discuss that the labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading both have typical nonlinear characteristics.Based on the perspective of complexity science,this study considers that the research objects and the coupling relationship between them both belong to the category of nonlinear analysis,and the important feature of nonlinearity is the disorder of the system.Considering these views is actually verified on the basis of literature theory,it is also necessary to be supplemented by empirical quantitative verification.This is an important standard for ensuring that all the models designed in the following text maintain a unified framework for discussion.Through phase space reconstruction,we find that the Kolmogorov entropy of the main representative indicators of our research objects is non-zero and different,indicating that the functions and relationships existing in the elements occur on different metrics,that is,the system is complex,and has typical multi-scale features.Third,we discuss the mechanism between different dimensions of labor force evolution(quantity evolution and skill evolution)and the industrial structure upgrading.The results show that there is an extrusion effect the labor force evolution on the industrial structure upgrading in China.The industrial structure upgrading has a synergistic effect on the labor force evolution in all regions.The evolution of China's overall labor skill is a two-way synergy with the upgrading of the industrial structure only in the eastern region,and a two-way extrusion effect in the central part.In the west,the evolution of labor skills has an extrusion effect on the industrial structure upgrading,while the industrial structure upgrading has a synergy effect on the evolution of labor skills.The empirical results of different dimensions of labor evolution precisely reflect the heterogeneity in the process of regional development in China,which makes the obvious path dependence of quantity and skill evolution and the upgrading of industrial structure.Fourth,we discuss the role of different types of labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading under different constraints.First,the mathematical model for different types of path dependence in labor force evolution with spatial and time effects is constructed,including the realistic characteristics of the path dependence in the evolutionary of homogeneous and heterogeneous labor.The results show that the current evolutionary path of homogeneous labor is more stable,while the other two are more volatile,which fully reflects the complexity and uncertainty of China's labor force evolution path.Subsequently,a panel threshold model is constructed to discuss the relationship between different types of labor force evolution path and industrial structure upgrading.The results show that,regardless of China's overall situation or different regions,the threshold effect of path dependence in labor force evolution is obvious.From the perspective of the whole country,the homogenous and heterogeneous labor force has a significant positive effect on advancing the industrial structure when its path dependence is not high.In terms of regions,the path dependence of labor evolution in the east has a positive effect on advancing the industrial structure but a negative effect on rationalizing the industrial structure.The path dependence of evolution in homogenous labor in the central and western regions is positive for the industrial structure upgrading.The roles of heterogeneous labor in advancing the industrial structure in these two regions are also opposite,with the promotion mechanism in the central part and the suppression mechanism in the western part.Fifth,reveal the nonlinear mechanism between labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading,and derive their optimal development path in different regions.The labor force in the eastern region should take the internal context as the direction of path dependence,and focus on promoting the skills evolution of heterogeneous labor,and strengthen the recognition of the labor for the current environment of industrial structure.There are two situations in the central region.The one is when the situation of path dependence is mainly directed by external influences,the development should promote the number evolution of homogeneous labor to rationalize industrial structure upgrading.The second is to change the direction of path dependence and promote the quantity evolution of homogeneous as well as heterogeneous labor at the same time.The western region must change the current path dependence to improve the skill evolution of homogeneous labor under the objective of rationalizing the industrial structure.The innovation of this dissertation mainly includes the following points:First,it reveals the non-linear mechanism of labor force evolution in different dimensions,different types of labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading,and realizes the multi-dimensional discussion,which enriches the existing research;second,it use Path Dependence theory to explain the regional differences of the mechanism of labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading in the process of regional unbalanced development;third,we discuss whether the research objects are synergistic or crowding out effect from the biological point of view;fourth,it takes full account of the movement trajectory of labor force evolution and industrial structure upgrading in time and space dimensions,and runs this view throughout the whole study,especially constructing the path-dependent model.
