Since the "tenth five years" Plan began, our government has actively promoted the transformation of the mode of economic growth and implemented the urbanization strategy. The new urbanization with "human-oriented" has gradually become a new engine to promote China's future economic growth. How to effectively turn to high-quality development in the process of new-type urbanization in the future has become an important issue of urgent research. With the help of total factor productivity as an important method to determine the quality of economic growth, this paper explores the driving mechanism for the effective realization of total factor productivity growth in the process of urbanization.Firstly, this paper reviews two modes in different stages of urbanization development in China:land urbanization and new urbanization, and analyses the two significant changes in the process of urbanization from "software" and "hardware".On the one hand, the spatial agglomeration of population and the spatial expansion of urban scale;on the other hand, the internal improvement of population quality and the efficiency of infrastructure. These two aspects have a certain degree of negative impact on total factor productivity, but also have a certain degree of positive impact.It-can be seen that in the process of urbanization,we need to explore the direction, degree and specific path of urbanization level affecting total factor productivity. This paper constructs a fixed effect model and a threshold model of urbanization level affecting total factor productivity and its decomposition terms, and makes an empirical analysis from both linear and non-linear methods. The studies find that the positive impact of urbanization on total factor productivity is significantly weaker than the negative impact. Therefore,in order to effectively drive the growth of total factor productivity, urbanization level needs to combine with the driving mechanism of total factor productivity to produce a positive regulatory role to drive the growth of total factor productivity.Secondly,in view of the changes of "software" and "hardware" perspectives in the process of urbanization, the paper chooses human capital upgrading and infrastructure structure optimization as two driving mechanisms, and constructs a panel regression model of urbanization level and driving mechanism affecting total factor productivity and its decomposition items from the perspective of total amount. This paper uses two methods:fixed effect and interactive effect to analyze the direction, degree and path of the combined driving mechanism of urbanization on total factor productivity. It is found that the level of urbanization combined with the improvement of driving mechanism has a significant positive interaction effect, which effectively promotes the improvement of total factor productivity, technological efficiency and technological progress. However,in the process of urbanization, the specific path and role of human capital upgrading and infrastructure structure optimization driving total factor productivity growth are different. The level of urbanization combined with the upgrading of human capital can effectively drive the growth of total factor productivity by promoting the path of technological progress;on the contrary, the level of urbanization combined with the optimization of infrastructure structure can effectively drive the growth of total factor productivity by promoting the path of technological efficiencyThirdly, from the perspective of human capital structure,it refines to different levels of human capital, using three methods:interaction effect, spatial autocorrelation and spatial heterogeneity,to explore the direction, degree and path of heterogeneous human capital affecting total factor productivity in the process of urbanization. The study found that urbanization combined with advanced human capital and innovative human capital can effectively drive the growth of total factor productivity by promoting the path of technological progress.Considering the spatial factors, advanced human capital has promoted the local technological progress, which is conducive to driving the growth of total factor productivity in the region.Because of the strong spatial competition effect,it has a significant negative impact on the technological progress in the surrounding areas.Innovative human capital has weakened the promotion of total factor productivity and technological progress in the region, but because of the strong spatial competition effect,it has a significant negative impact on the technological progress in the surrounding areas. The spatial spillover effect is strong, which has a significant promoting effect on the technological progress in the surrounding areas.Considering the spatial heterogeneity, heterogeneous human capital has a significant threshold effect on total factor productivity;the regional distribution trend in different threshold ranges shows that the overall level of human capital in China has been continuously improved, and innovative human capital shows a clustering effect, which further strengthens the degree of driving total factor productivity.Fourthly, from the perspective of infrastructure structure,it refines to different types of infrastructure, and explores the direction, degree and path of heterogeneous infrastructure affecting total factor productivity in the process of urbanization by using three methods:interaction effect, spatial autocorrelation and spatial heterogeneity. It is found that the specific path of urbanization combined with transportation infrastructure and information infrastructure driving total factor productivity growth is the same. The two interaction items can promote both technological efficiency and technological progress. The interaction effect of urbanization level combined with education infrastructure and technological infrastructure on total factor productivity is not significant.Considering spatial factors, because of the strong spatial spillover effect, transportation infrastructure has a.significant promoting effect on the total factor productivity and technological progress of the surrounding areas;on the contrary, though the improvement of information infrastructure level is conducive to promoting technological progress to effectively drive the growth of total factor productivity in the region;because of the strong spatial competition effect,it has a significant promoting effect on the total factor productivity of the surrounding areas.Technological progress has had a significant negative impact.Considering the spatial heterogeneity, the impact of transportation infrastructure on total factor productivity is uncertain when the level of transportation infrastructure is low,and with the transport infrastructure crossing the first threshold,it has a significant positive effect on total factor productivity. If the threshold effect is not taken into account, the promotion degree of transportation infrastructure to total factor productivity will be overestimated. Finally,on the basis of clarifying the mechanism of urbanization level combined with driving mechanism affecting total factor productivity, this paper puts forward policy suggestions on the effective realization of total factor productivity driving in urbanization process from the aspects of total-structure,spatial correlation and spatial heterogeneity of driving mechanism.
