Research front of science and technology is pioneering,forward-looking,and strategic.It is the core force of innovation-driven development and has become the focus of international competition.The high-tech fields represented by nanotechnology,biology,information,and cognitive technology are developing rapidly,and a new technological revolution is sweeping the world.General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that we must keenly grasp the development trend of science and technology innovation in the world,seize the opportunity of a new round of science and technology revolution and industrial transformation,and implement the major strategy of future-oriented innovation-driven development.Facing the new situation in which the fronts of science and technology research are constantly expanding and emerging areas,we need to make scientific decisions and occupy the fronts of science and technolog innovation on the basis of accurately grasping the development trend of science and technolog research front in the world.Faced with national strategic needs,the main research contents of this paper include four aspects:(1)research on the definition and identification of research frontiers,research on the construction heredity and inheritance model;(2)research on the evolution path and evolution model of the research front;(3)the construction of research front characteristic index and analysis of its evolution trend;(4)system design and empirical analysis.First,this thesis intends to analyze and determine the research front concepts,identification methods and indexes,and the improved co-citation analysis method is used to identify research fronts through journal articles.Secondly,the heredity and inheritance indexes are used to determine the heredity and inheritance relationship of the research fronts in continuous time windows,and the theoretical model of heredity and inheritance of the research front are constructed.Based on this theoretical model,the evolution path and evolution model of the research fronts are judged.Next,the front comprehensive index and maturity comprehensive index of the research front are constructed by researching the basic attribute indexes such as newness,attention,activity,growth,and potential value of the research front,supplemented by network topological structure characteristic indexes and topic similarity indexes.Analyze the characteristic distribution and evolution trend of the research front evolution,and then predict the life cycle of the research front that is still in development.Finally,a comparative analysis is made of the evolution of research fronts in two hot high-tech fields,artificial intelligence and nanotechnology.We find that the evolution life cycle of research fronts in the two high-tech fields are generally shorter,which indicates that the research fronts in both fields are being updated very quickly,and the research fronts of the artificial intelligence field are changing faster than the nanotechnology field.Besides,we find that the proportion of non-linear evolution model paths in both fields is significantly higher than the linear evolution model.This is consistent with the interdisciplinary attributes of artificial intelligence and nanotechnology as representative of convergence technology.By comparing the distribution of research front features,we find that the distribution of artificial intelligence and nanotechnology has their own characteristics,but also have certain similarities:the distribution of front,maturity,and similarity features of adjacent topics are relatively stable among different length paths,but the differences of head and tail topics are larger in the longer path.In the distribution of network topological structure features,the similarity between the two fields is that the distribution of degree centralization and closeness centralization are relatively stable among different length paths.Through the comparison of evolution trends,we find that during the evolution process,the front of most paths gradually weakens,and the maturity gradually increases.In terms of evolution strength,the characteristics of the research fronts under the short-term evolution model and the linear evolution model in the two fields have changed more drastically.By predicting the development research front of the two fields,we find that the research front in the non-linear evolution model may have a longer evolution time in the future,and more attention and policy should be given.
