Abstract/Summary:
On the Intellectuals of the Future and the Left Re-armed is a reflection on the foundations of Latin American left thinking after the Cold War. As the 're-armament' of the left intellectuals and a post avant-garde are suggested. The radical thrust of both these figures is drawn from postmodernism and post-colonial theory, placed within the tradition of left practice and thought. This is done in the backdrop of UTOPIA UNARMED, EL PERFECTO IDIOTA LATINOAMERICANO and the work of Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau. All traditional left categories - agency, revolution, intellectuals, art, artists, and political practice - are accordingly redrawn. The project rounds up in as a definition of what Latin America is, a long standing practice of both right and left.
