As a witness of wisdom and conscience of intellectuals of an era, Mr. Yang Jiangis a prominent writer in the field of modern and contemporary literature in China. Nomatter Yang Jiang’s extraordinary talents in Shanghai theatre circle as she made herliterary debut in the1930s, or her continuous stable achievements in the field of novel,or the random wanderings in the field of essay, she not only depicts numerous secularlife pictures of Shanghai in20th century, but also embodies a spirit of strong criticismand ideal sustenance of Chinese intellectuals. The paper has studied the author’sreveal of social life and torture of intellectuals’ souls from fields of drama, novel andessay respectively, and thereby explores in more depth the literary value and artisticcharm of Yang Jiang’s works.The introduction part introduces the research review, research value and researchapproach of Yang Jiang. Part1of the main body, divided into three sections, discusseshow Yang Jiang’s intellectual writing perspective forms in aspects of Yang Jiangfamily background, academic road and spiritual resource, which provides a morein-depth understanding of Yang Jiang’s intellectual writing mode. Part2comprisestwo sections: section1explores Yang Jiang’s free and independent creative attitudefrom the angle of Yang Jiang’s voluntary isolation from social politics as she beganher literary life; section2, by citing Yang Jiang’s drama works, analyzes the spiritualconnotation of her works and the author’s ways of creation, and further explores YangJiang’s unique spiritual wisdom. Part3digs up the spiritual content of Yang Jiang’snovels: section1, centered upon a collection of short stories titled “Reflection”,analyzes the value and significance behind Yang Jiang’s daily writing; section2,focused on novel “bath”, discusses and analyzes Yang Jiang’s criticism of humannature of intellectuals and her expectations and construction of great humanpersonality. Part4excavates Yang Jiang’s promotion of intellectuals’ good moralcharacters in the field of essay. This part comprises two sections—section1analyzesYang Jiang’s distinctive cadre writings and highlights her calm life wisdom; section2analyzes the noble temperament of intellectuals in Yang Jiang’s recollection proses; the conclusion, by comparing Yang Jiang’s description of the intellectuals with that ofother writers, especially a writer with similar family background and growthexperience, Zong Pu, further researches Yang Jiang’s intellectual writingcharacteristics.
