Abstract/Summary:
This study explores the work of a theological task force which created a discursive transcendent space. Through these patterns of communication, they created new frames in which to discuss intractable issues, developed deep and lasting friendships, and explored the power and limits of multiple worldviews. As they participated in this form of communication over a period of 5 years, they co-constructed a transcendent episode, and participants reported their experience as transformational.;Using the concepts and heuristics of the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM), this study reveals the communication patterns inherent in this moral conflict. It also shows how the task force changed those patterns to transcend differences and create a way for others to "go on" in the conversation.
