A research on Chinese consumer culture an understanding of consumerism and the problems of consumer culture

Abstract/Summary:
Nowadays, as one of the biggest promising markets of the world, China is in the spotlight. However, like strongly western oriented Chinese consumers' tastes and the frequently occurring quality problems of domestic goods etc, Chinese consumer culture is faced with serious problems. This dissertation, through understanding Chinese consumer culture, is on purpose to illuminate the mechanism of the problems of Chinese consumer culture.;For that, at first, the author put together different theories of consumer society up to now and integrated them into an original model named "evolution of differentiation", which is the tool to analysis Chinese consumer culture. Then, by using the enormous data of newspaper, the author described carefully the process of China becoming consumer society and the formation of Chinese consumer culture.;As an objective conclusion of this dissertation, the author insists calmly that Chinese consumer culture is on the level of "conspicuous consumption" yet, and this is the main reason why the problems of Chinese consumer culture occur so frequently and seriously. What's more, considering China's large population and the crisis of pollution, the author indicates pessimistically that the popularization of "standard package" consumption is almost impossible in China and Chinese consumer culture can not escape out of the level of "conspicuous consumption" easily.
