Abstract/Summary:
The critical pedagogy tradition of educational philosophy has overlooked the possible contributions of psychoanalytic theory. The oversight of psychoanalysis in educational theory is especially unfortunate because Sigmund Freud himself thought the two were kindred, calling both "impossible occupations." In this dissertation, the author begins with a review of the literature of critical pedagogy to show the gap left by the exclusion of psychoanalytic discussions. The author then provides three studies in order to form the groundwork of a broader articulation between pedagogy and psychoanalysis. This articulation is called: psychopedagogy.
