Abstract/Summary:
This study reported the status of introductory electronic music in United States universities that offered an undergraduate degree in music production and technology. The population included 54 programs listed on the Audio Engineering Society's Directory of Educational Programs. With an online questionnaire, each university reported on the first hands-on electronic music course offered at their institution. The study was divided into three areas: curriculum, instructional materials and technical facilities. The data were analyzed and illustrated with narration, descriptive statistics and summary tables. Although some answers indicated diversity among the population, some answers demonstrated commonality. Approximately 50% of class time was used for instruction in MIDI.
