| Few studies addressed contributory causes for occupational violence (OV) numbers and preventative measures, particularly related to certain industries. This study examined contributing factors for high incidents in one industry compared to low in another. The independent variables were the two industries used, a Securities management firm, and a Taxicab company. The securities management firm had low OV incidents and the taxicab company had high OV incidents. The Employee Survey Workplace Violence Hazard Assessment was the survey instrument which used a 5-item Likert scale. The instrument had 32 items, 3 sub headings with questions addressing each. Subheadings were Management Commitment, Training, and Incidents. The two types of industries Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) with the summed scores for the three subheadings were the dependent variables. The research design was a quasi-experimental simple two-group comparison. Study results revealed these two industries contrasted in their approach to OV incidents but both lacked in providing effective OV training to employees. The securities management firm encouraged a more efficient forum for employees to express OV issues and concerns. |
