| The purpose of this doctoral project is to advocate for individuals with Klinefelter syndrome or other disabling sex chromosomal aneuploidies, in order to provide access to the fifth category in the Lanterman Act. A literature review of the history of developmental disabilities and the Lanterman Act is included. The doctoral project also provides a review of developmental disabilities, including autism-like behaviors that occur in Klinefelter Syndrome and other sex chromosome aneuplodies. A proposal to change the Lanterman Act, as well as the ARCA's policy, with a proposal and discussion including limitations, future research and peer review, were further included in the doctoral project. This doctoral project benefits participants, as it sheds light on lesser known conditions. It also provides a greater understanding of academic and social difficulties that individuals with sex chromosomal aneuplodies can experience and how to support them. Furthermore, it provides a basis for which to advocate for a change in legislation. |
