Abstract/Summary:
Students who earn academic probation are at a higher risk of not graduating from college than their peers. There are a host of factors that appear to make a person more at-risk of failure. But not all who end up on academic probation are doomed to failure. Some students show remarkable resiliency in the face of adversity. For them, academic probation is merely a detour on the road to academic success. This study looks at resiliency factors exhibited by participants who once found themselves on academic probation and have successfully worked their way off of it. While some people are naturally resilient individuals, studies show that resilience can be fostered. The focus of this study is primarily on the factors that build resiliency in post-secondary students.
