Abstract/Summary:
Given the regulatory and compliance demands put upon International Student Offices in the United States, how can universities respond to the unique adjustment issues facing visa holders? This study focused on what personal characteristics international students may possess that contribute to their success at educational institutions in the United States, what services colleges and universities can provide to enhance these students' scholastic and social success, and what specific steps may be employed by the institution to increase adjustment. The benefits to the institutions include recruitment and enrollment management strategies, retention, and word-of-mouth referrals from former students, as well as adding diversity and economic value.
