This qualitative instrumental case study dissertation was designed to investigate whether information technology could be utilized to improve interagency collaboration between the Department of State and Department of Defense. Data relating to four factors deemed pertinent to the use of information technology to facilitate collaborative efforts was collected. Data collection for the qualitative instrumental case study took place using semi-structured interviews, surveys, and by reviewing documents and reports. The results of the study indicate that although comprehensive collaborative initiatives that facilitate the exchange of information between the Department of State and the Department of Defense are not in existence, the necessary culture to utilize information technology to facilitate collaboration does, in fact, exist. As has been indicated by the research data, a comprehensive approach addressing the infrastructure, infostructure, infoculture, and knowledge aspects of the study would enable enhanced interagency collaboration using information technology. |
