This research project made use of the quantitative Resiliency Youth Assessment Inventory, created by Dr. Wayne Hammond Ph.D., of Resiliency Canada, in an attempt to evaluate and create a model of effective holistic youth ministry practice. The information gathered and analyzed from the application of the Resiliency Assessment Inventory administered among six small group youth ministries, provided a theoretical template that guided the development of a holistic strength-based mentoring practice. The strength-based mentoring strategy proposed focused on emphasizing the measured resources, capabilities, proficiencies and capacities of those teens involved. A strength-based holistic approach to mentoring will fortify the development of teens engaged in the mentoring process. This strength-based mentoring approach of discipleship is a deliberate shift from several years of problem-focused deficit protectionist discipleship practice. |
