Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the influence of entrepreneurial characteristics on the business performance of female business owners in San Antonio, Texas. The study examined the relationship of networking, persistence, achievement motivation, and education to financial performance. The target population of 311 female business owners in the San Antonio, Texas received a 15-item Entrepreneur Survey by way of direct mail. The mailing included a postage-paid return envelope for participants to return the completed survey for data collection and analysis. The random sampling included 307 participants from the target population of 311 female business owners. The response rate was 98.6%. Entrepreneurial researchers concede that the response rate for surveys of entrepreneurs is typically low (Stewart et al., 2003). The findings indicated a statistically significant relationship exists between entrepreneur characteristics and business performance, specifically education, networking, and persistence in business performance, for female business owners. The quantitative data could assist female entrepreneurs through increased understanding of entrepreneurial characteristics on the success of business performance.
