Abstract/Summary:
The context of this study is twofold: a qualitative study of the effects of a mentoring program within a law firm environment and a quantitative study on the relationship between age and conscientiousness among attorneys. The primary researcher designed and implemented a mentoring program within a law firm and then subsequently observed and received feedback from the participants as to the effectiveness of the program. Positive feedback was obtained, and the participants felt the program was useful and necessary. Job satisfaction and higher retention rates were associated with having a formal and informal mentoring program in place.;The primary researcher found no significant correlation between age and conscientiousness among attorneys, which left the researcher questioning if the mindset of those who aspire to become attorneys is naturally conscientious. Practical implications and suggestions for future research that explores sampling from a larger pool of participants and over a longer period of time are discussed.
