Abstract/Summary: | |
This quantitative research was designed to identify the capabilities and strategic typologies of hotel general managers in Canada over the past year and the impact of these capabilities and strategic modes on hotel performance. Capabilities and strategies were identified within a wide span of research and this researcher embraced two major theories and instruments: the New Zealand Institute of Management Capability Index (NZIMCI) which contains eight major drivers; and the strategic typology of Miles and Snow (2003) which contains four types of strategic management categories. A .05 significance level was used and no significant relationship was found between capabilities and strategic typologies, between capabilities and hotel performance, or between strategic typology and hotel performance. The capability rating of the general managers in this research was found to be high in comparison to others and the most common strategic typology used was a combination strategy, which corresponds to other research. |
