Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the present research was to develop and validate a work-related measure of openness to experience. This was based on a revised definition of the fifth factor of personality, culling and combining occupationally relevant portions of culture, intellect, and openness to experience. Thus, a series of analyses were performed to assess and support the proposed five-facet structure of a newly created measure of this context specific definition. Further, construct and criterion-related validity of this measure was assessed using data from an employed sample. The ultimate goal was to demonstrate the importance of this construct in the work environment, and obtain support for improvement over global definitions, which was achieved.
