This mixed-methodology study explored perceptions of information sharing among individuals who participate in small teams with co-located members. The purpose was to explore relations between factors that influence decisions to share information. The survey instrument was a modified version of the relational variable questionnaire. The surveys assessed employees' perceptions regarding interaction decision factors that include knowing, accessibility, proximity, cohesion, aspiration, and risks. These factors are known to impact information exchange. Qualitative data from interviews were used to discover additional factors that influence information giving and seeking. Results revealed five of six variables consistently predicted information seeking. Accessibility was a stronger predictor when combined with another variable. All variables were found predictors of giving information. The type and level of risks were significant in the decision to exchange information. Derivative data have implications for the development of transactive memory systems.
