Abstract/Summary:
This dissertation study identified to what extent there was a relationship between transactional and transformational leadership behaviors and the job satisfaction of college faculty members. The correlation between academic leadership attributes and faculty job satisfaction was examined. Faculty members were surveyed from non-public colleges and universities from Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas. Results were analyzed in terms of the faculty member's perception of leader transactional and transformational attributes and the influence of those attributes on faculty job satisfaction. The constructs of transactional and transformational leadership and job satisfaction were measured using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. Regression analysis indicated that two transactional and two transformational leadership attributes accounted for approximately 83% of the variance of job satisfaction.
