Abstract/Summary:
Education is the most important factor that will decide the future of humankind (Nayak, 2014). India is one of the fastest developing nations in the world and has a celebrated past and recognized contributions in literature, science, mathematics, and other various fields of education. Besides being the pioneer and hub of engineers, doctors, and scientist, India is still struggling to keep the overall education index on par with the world's average statistics (Rowan, 2014). It is quite unusual to see how a country's education growth and literacy levels inconsistently run parallel to its impressive economic growth. This study aims to spotlight the current landscape, factors contributing to the incongruity between economic and literacy growth as well as the major issues and challenges that hinder the country's educational growth. Furthermore, this study highlights the scope of reforms and most importantly, how countries struggling with similar issues can take countermeasures to decrease literacy and increase economic development. The study is based on Observational Research and Non-participant method of qualitative data collection. The study explains how India and other developing countries can make the best engagement of available resources for a better education system in the country.
