Abstract/Summary:
This research investigated the impact of an instructor's credibility and employment of relevance strategies on a student's perception of content relevance, interest, state motivation, affective learning, and cognitive learning. The results of this study indicated a moderately strong positive main effect for an instructor's credibility on all of the outcome variables, and weak positive interaction effects were observed between instructor credibility and employment of relevance strategies on relevance and the meaningfulness dimension of empowerment. A significant main effect for an instructor's employment of relevance strategies was not found. The results of this study indicated the importance of an instructor's credibility, and that instructors should work hard to build and maintain their credibility. Limitations of this study and directions for future research are discussed.
