Development and evaluation of a workplace violence prevention plan

Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this applied dissertation was to develop a workplace violence prevention plan that would be used as an intervention approach towards controlling the factors that lead to workplace violence. To guide this research study, the following questions were explored, (a) What factors contribute to workplace violence, (b) What are the National statistics for workplace violence on incidents and victims, (c) What is the importance of a workplace violence policy/prevention plan, (d) What are the risk factors associated with workplace violence, (e) What are the components of a workplace violence prevention plan, and (f) What is the most effective approach to implementing and evaluating the plan?; The development problem solving methodology was used for this research. This included (a) a comprehensive literature review, (b) the development of two surveys, (c) reviews and validation of the surveys by the formative and summative committees, (d) administering of the surveys, (e) the development of the RITECT (recruitment, introduction to policy, training, employee assistance programs, crisis management, and terminations) Model - a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, and (f) reviews and validation of the model by the formative and summative committees.
