Abstract/Summary:
The proposed research is descriptive and exploratory in seeking to collect baseline on residential treatment programs (i.e., community corrections) by examining the types of residential treatment programs that are currently operating for female inmates within Pennsylvania. This research is also significant in terms of two measures of accountability---objective documentation of the number of services provided and financial accountability to the public. There is a need for continued research to assess residential treatment programs and service delivery performance offered to addicted inmates, particularly females.;The research findings provide researchers and practitioners with baseline data regarding organizational characteristics, community-organizational linkages, and a client profile for residential treatment centers within Pennsylvania. Findings from this study may also lead to organizational groupings based upon differences in community-organizational linkages and the impact these may have on treating the female addicted client.;Ultimately, the significance of this research lies in the examination of exploratory hypotheses and the determination of baseline data that can be used to stimulate thought and generate debate among researchers and practitioners, about the existing types of treatment programs. These data can also serve as a foundation for future research to address the female addicted and incarcerated person within Pennsylvania.
