Abstract/Summary:
The study was an examination of the current state of managerial roles of chief information officers (CIOs) in higher education. The survey, completed by 232 higher education CIOs and senior technology employees, provided data that significantly pointed to the differences existing between the perceived managerial roles of higher education CIOs and those of corporate CIOs. Primary differences were found in the perceived managerial roles between these two groups. Since there are differences in the area of perceived managerial roles, it is highly likely that there are additional differences within other areas of the CIOs roles, skills, functions, and responsibilities which should provide enough support to warrant additional studies into exploring the existence of additional differences as well as why those potential difference exist.
