Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of beginning teachers on the teacher training they received by institutions of higher education in the area of classroom management. Fifty-five beginning teachers were identified for the study in the Cooperative Educational Service Agency #3 area located in southwest Wisconsin. Survey methodology was utilized to collect the data.; The results of the survey research displayed that a strong majority of beginning teachers believed that their classroom management skills had a definite impact on their effectiveness as a teacher. The results of their teacher training displayed variations among hands-on practical classroom experiences and post-secondary classroom instruction as both strengths and weaknesses of their teacher training. A majority of the beginning teachers surveyed stated better classroom instruction was needed in classroom management, especially in the areas of disciplining students and parental communication.
