Knowledge workers and productivity in poultry firms: Managers' perspectives on work management and challenges

This qualitative phenomenological study focused on the essential elements that constitute the productivity of knowledge managers in the poultry industry in Northwest Arkansas. Knowledge managers faced challenges and changes in the poultry industry. In-depth interviews were conducted with eight experienced managers in poultry firms. The Van Kaam modified method recommended by Moustakas was followed in the data collection and analysis processes. The results from the study represented participants' lived experiences regarding productivity and innovation in the poultry industry. The interview data were categorized into eight themes: (a) success and self-confidence, (b) strategic planning, (c) leading through synergy and service, (d) managerial challenges, (e) work-stress management, (f) resources and tools to support managers, (g) management support and rewards, and (h) present awareness. The findings indicated that knowledge managers are more productive when they are motivated to succeed, have the tools and resources to overcome challenges, and perceive changes as emerging opportunities.
