Abstract/Summary:
This study assesses the relationship between senior executives' social networks and business alliance formation using the model of social networks and weak ties developed by Mark Granovetter (1973; 1985) as a theoretical foundation. The research empirically quantifies the social networks of senior executives of performing arts organizations in relation to their application of interfirm alliances as a business strategy. The proposal studied is that the number of, and effort put into, social network encounters by senior executives improves the ability to establish and maintain interfirm alliances. In regards to the population studied, the proposal put forth is not empirically supported. Future avenues of research are offered.
