Psychometric assessment of a continuous quality improvement implementation measure in Taiwanese hospitals

The movement to improve the quality of health care is worldwide. The purpose of this study was to translate from the original English language into the target Chinese language, an instrument for the measurement of continuous quality improvement (CQI) implementation developed in the United States and to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the measurement.; This study had four phases. The first phase was the translation phase. The investigator translated the English version of the measurement into Chinese. The Chinese version was translated back into English. Three bilingual professors served as a panel to examine the equivalency of the translation. The second phase was the content validity phase. This study used eight experts as a panel to validate the Chinese version of CQI implementation measurement. The result showed that the total scale CVI was 0.82 for clarity and 0.86 for representiveness. The third phase was the construct validity phase. The data were collected from 50 hospitals. Exploratory factor analysis resulted in a one-factor solution with a leadership factor accounting for 45.9% variance. The fourth phase was the reliability phase. Cronbach's alpha internal consistency reliability was 0.95 for the final 25 item scale.
