Abstract/Summary:
Long carbon and silicon-carbon chains are produced in solid Ar matrix at ∼10K using laser ablation technique at TCU Physics Molecular Laboratory. The Fourier transform infrared investigation of the 13C isotopic spectra of the products coupled with density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP/cc_pVDZ level has resulted in the identification of one long carbon chain cluster, linear C12, and two silicon-carbon clusters, SiC7 and SiC9.;For linear C12, three stretching modes are identified---the nu 8 mode at 1997.2, nu9 mode at 1818.0 and nu7 mode at 2140.6 cm-1. However, due to the weak absorption of this mode, the nu7 mode is considered tentative.;For linear SiC7, for the first time, the nu1 stretching mode is assigned at 2100.8 cm-1.;For linear SiC9, for the first time, the nu4 stretching mode is assigned at 1935.8 cm-1.
