Abstract/Summary:
Fifteen mononucleotide and dinucleotide repeat microsatellite markers were isolated from a bovine library and characterized. Seven of these markers, in addition to 96 other published markers were used to develop ;The degree of saturation of these eight chromosome maps was sufficient to identify economic trait loci (ETL) having a major effect on several growth and carcass traits. A single locus multiple regression model based on interval mapping was used to identify ETL with LOD ;These results provide the initial localization of ETL for the application of MAS in future beef cattle breeding programs. Utilization of comparative mapping information and a Bacterial Artificial Chromosome library developed in this laboratory will enable the positional cloning of the most economically important ETL.
