Abstract/Summary:
Problems. The problem of this study was: (1) to determine the relationship between church growth and selected variables important to the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in Nigeria. The selected variables are preaching, evangelism, worship, doctrinal beliefs, and church composition as evaluated by the Church Growth Questionnaire (CGQ); and (2) to determine whether or not church size and church growth were independent.; Procedures. A total of eighteen District Church Councils (DCC) were selected from a substantive forty-seven districts in Nigeria. From 1380 churches which met the criteria for the study, 200 were selected by means of a computer-generated random sampling. Furthermore, a 4-response Likert Scale questionnaire comprised of an “Additional Information” section was distributed to fellowships and Sunday School teachers in each church. The multiple regression (stepwise-backward) statistic, the Chi Square, and the Cramer's Phi were used to evaluate the data.; Findings and conclusion. Significance was established from the analysis F (2, 133) + .13, p < .05. Predictor variables significantly predicted growth in the ECWA churches in Nigeria. Also, church size and church growth were positively related X2 (2, N = 133) = 91.45, p < .05. These findings were discussed and suggestions were made for further study.
