Abstract/Summary:
Lockheed Martin/UCF Academy for Mathematics and Science (LMA) provides a unique opportunity for teachers of central Florida to study, learn, and inquire together while seeking their master's degree. This research project documents the process of change a group of teachers experienced as they participated in this program for one year. Teachers reconstructed visions of their pedagogy while working to make actions match their visions. Elements of the program that facilitated teacher change are presented by demonstrating how they supported the change process.; This qualitative study utilized interviews, surveys, and students' journals to understand how the LMA program effected teacher change. Data were collected over one-year period. The analysis revealed the participants were in various stages of reconstructing visions of their pedagogy, working to match their actions with their visions, addressing barriers encountered, and many became empowered to take leadership roles within their schools. This research concluded that the program structure that facilitated this change process included critical and practical theoretical literature, reflective journals, and support from the program leadership and cohort peers.; Recommendations include suggestions from the participants to enhance this program along with suggestions for future research projects.
