Offering courses via the Internet is becoming more prevalent at the university level. Generally, instructors and students like the concept. This study indicates that offering the course LIS 1600 - Information Resources, via the Internet using active learning techniques, is preferable and beneficial to both students and instructors. LIS 1600 is an undergraduate introduction to research and resources in an academic library. Two hundred forty-seven students, in seven sections of LIS 1600, participated in the study conducted during the fall semester 1999. Data was collected using a pre- and post-test. An Analysis of Covariance was used to measure the data. The findings of the study indicate that students like this format and would continue to enroll in courses offered via the Internet. The study also indicates that there was little difference between the knowledge gained by the students enrolled in the online sections and students enrolled in the traditional lecture courses.
